Codona Codona, Codona 2 and Codona 3 Colin Walcott, Don Cherry and Nana Vasconcelos got together in the early 1980's and recorded Codona, an amalgamation of different styles. The acoustic elements are decidedly ethnic; the sound design is assuredly world beat; the atmospheres are definitely ambient. This CD is a very important piece in the new age puzzle. Its influence is still heard in tribal ambient and ethno tribal albums in the new millennium. (next CD below)
Colin Walcott, Don Cherry and Nana Vasconcelos had a great time recording Codona. They enjoyed it enough to make Codona 2, a similar and different sound. They drew on the same diverse references and they honed their sound design skills to allow the styles to compliment with a broader appeal. So, the sound is similar and different. (next CD below)
Codona 3 is the final installment from the collaborative ensemble of Colin Walcott, Don Cherry and Nana Vasconcelos. It is an absolutely wonderful set, easily the crown jewel of the trilogy. The performances are flawless and the virtuosity of each performer sparkles. The entire trilogy is essential. This disc is special. - Jim Brenholts
