Burn The Sun is a straight-ahead heavy metal album complete with crunching guitar riffage and imposing vocals. The format of the album is closer to a traditional, vocal-oriented, song-based commercial format than of the other guitar-centric, instrumental-intensive albums that I have heard from the Favored Nations label. The guitar work on this album is more centered around the heavy chord riffing that provides the framework for the songs, rather than any intensive solo work that I was anticipating when I first listened to the album.
As far as this format of heavy metal goes, Burn The Sun is comparable to other stuff that is out there. The album is well-produced and the songs are cohesive with a distinctive style. However, I was disappointed that there was not more guitar soloing and more intensive guitar work. This type of song-oriented, heavy metal format just is not my thing, though I am sure that there are people out there that will like this style of music and specifically this band. So, with all due respect to the band, Burn The Sun probably hits the mark for the target that the band was after, but it is unfortunate for you guys that the album wound up in my mailbox for review because I just don't have any interest in this venue, and I'll add that this is just a matter of personal preference!
