Brainstorm Two: Earth Zero (CD, 56:08); Brainstorm Records, 001, 1994 E-mail: mfraser@vtown.com.au Cyberhome: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~bstorm 10 words or less: Australia’s answer to Twelfth Night Elaboration: The thing about Twelfth Night, IQ, It Bites, Marillion, Pendragon and all the other first generation NeoProg bands that made them “Neo” was their attempt to fuse the raw energy and 4/4 Rock & Roll attitude of the Punk/New Wave generation with the aerie faerie pretensiveness of classic ProgRock. For some, this was a breath of fresh air in progressive music. For others it was just plain schlock. Latecomers to the NeoProg scene, Brainstorm started recording in 1988. This disc compiles various recordings through a 6 year period during which they apparently could not get a record deal. Even this disc is self-released. There is some very nice Synthesizer work on this album and the compositions are quite good as NeoProg goes. The standout track is the 21-minute Armageddon suite. If you are a fan of any of the aforementioned bands then I have no doubt Brainstorm Two will be your cuppa. ~ L Perez
