Gordon Reid: Aliens (CD, 52:41); Dejavu Records, DV-GRCD-001, 2000 E-mail: gordon@cedar-audio.com Cyberhome: http://www.gordonreid.co.uk 10 words or less: Spacey, electronic soundtrack to the documentary Aliens of the Sea Elaboration: Though I have yet to see the documentary of which this is the soundtrack, I am easily transported via the music to an imaginary, underwater paradise. This album actually sounds like underwater music. Fans of Vangelis will appreciate this album. Each piece is slow and introspective but not completely devoid of punch. Percussion is handled by ProgRocker Nick Magnus of Steve Hackett fame who also produced the album. The good news is there is a slight hint of Wish You Were Here era Floyd that I hear in some of these instrumental tracks. The bad news is track 5 is slightly reminiscent of Vangelis’ Chariots of Fire making it the first dash of New Aged cheese on the album. These are the sounds that the album vacillates between from start to finish. A nice listen but nothing to write home about. ~ L Perez
