Vampire Nation: Conquistadors Fredrik von Hamilton records some fairly innovative e-music under the pseudonym Vampire Nation. Conquistadors is his third CD and - by far - the most original. There are strange samples, overt rhythms, deep sequences and eerie atmospheres. The first two CD's had all that too. This CD has some cool extras. Fredrik cuts loose with some in-your-face smokin' rock and roll guitar riffs. He juxtaposes those riffs with light organ passages, almost like a merry-go-round or ice skating rink. The whole package is absolutely scintillating! Cosmos has been getting lots of airplay and was on November's NAV charts. This EP is on Fred's own Hexagon Records label. This is a combination of breathy spoken word vocals, techno funk rhythms and wild atmospheres. It is straightforward sinister dark wave with absolute atmospheres. Fred has proven to be an extremely versatile and prolific electronician. In his short career, he has recorded at least 11 CD's, including this limited edition nugget. This is a cosmic and rhythmic spacescape. Fred is exploring some kind of irony and/or humor as he takes the government to task and to outer space. Fred surrounds some eerie sci-fi atmospheres with some devastating sequences and bizarre rhythms. Some dissonant experimental sounds and a smoking rock and roll guitar tip the scales to eclectica, esoterica and enigmatica! This is a very different ride. Those listeners inclined to categorize (like me!) will call this sci-fi experimental funky space rock ambience. CD's. It is a fairly straightforward set of experimental electronic funk without the frenetic techno overdrive. There are some heavy rhythms and they are techno in nature but they are not frenetic. Strange as it may seem, the rhythms are integral parts of Fredrik's deep atmospheres. That oxymoronic statement will catch many folks off guard and surprise others. But it happens! And this CD happens! It is plain and simple. It is intricate and complex. In short, this CD is one of the ultimate paradoxes. It fits none of the "typical" e-music styles and it fits all of them. - Jim Brenholts Vampire Nation: The Craft MP3.com, B5092, 2001 www.hexagonrecords.com hexagonrep@aol.com The Craft is a set of angry techno ambience from the master of ambient funk, Fredrik von Hamilton, a.k.a. Vampire Nation. This soundscape is full of some frantic angry overtones and riffs. It is neither sinister nor vengeful, just ticked off. Fredrik makes it all work by surrounding the experimental sounds and angry rhythms with soft wordless vocals and intricate atmospheres. This soundscape is as intense as it gets.
