EXPERIENCE NICO STUFANO!
I am completely amazed with Stufano! This is great fusion deep in the Holdsworthian style but fresh new compositions and a new treat all around for jazz fusion fans!
Fusion bliss strikes. Nico or a pal of his just sent me two of his CDs. TRACE OF JAZZ is solid and a good listen but the 2002 release, WAITING FOR . . . CD is awesome! Listen to samples & Buy CDs/DVDs here

Update 10/02/02: It seems Stufano's label has ceased operations! Please order Stufano CDs DIRECTLY from Stufano. Contact info: Nico Stufano via Bruno Angellotti, 31 00015 Monterotondo (Roma) tel. 380 - 5208116 email: email@example.com I have been doing that Holdsworth sound incessantly since Jean-Luc Ponty and the U.K. days. I have searched high and low for echoes of Gnarly Allan the Geezer Holdsworth for years. I found many great AH-influenced artists which folks here already know about but listen . . . lemme repeat . . . listen . . . Nico has absolutely nailed it, el perfecto mundo. My ears kept leaning outward like a cartoon character, as I cranked up Stufano and said, "Oh yeah, oh yeah, [insert laughter of glee]. This is the ticket." Now some of you will say, "So, just a clone." Now hold on dudes, lady fusers, and nonfuser duds -- other tunes on this CD are very non-AH as in acoustic axe-driven ones, as well as non-mirror AH sections of the tracks where later Stufano rips it up 110% AH style. Man! Does he ever do it! Sheesh. So, do not walk, run, surf and get this. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. (If you dig great fusion that is.)
In response to those critical of Stufano's being able to play so well in the stylings of Allan Holdsworth, (AH), I reply: I know where you're comin' from and understand, especially if your not an AH fanboy. Nico Stufano does use other tones, techniques, and song structures. He rips it up on acoustic like AH refuses to do anymore. Stufano also has one track on WAITING FOR . . . that is decidely Asian in its motif and Stufano nears that Nguyen Le koto sound vs. AH's horn sonority. To be honest with ya AH is a great guitarist that has worn a niche in my neurons that few ever reach. They get close but that certain endorphin high rarely kicks in just rite. Finally, Stufano has done it. It was just a superb aural/synaptic rush and therefore I praise his achievement. The fluidity, the phrasing, timing, tone, effects, song composition used by Stufano on his latest release varies a good deal but when someone can do a near-perfect AH with apparent ease and with soul, it amazes this fusion fan, reviewer, and guitarist. As a tribute to Stufano I now offer these MP3 file excerpts from his latest CD.
The mp3s are from Stufano's 2002 Waiting For . . . CD
